Another year of movies came and went. And as I did last year, in this season surrounding one of the biggest awards in the industry, I share my list of my 10 favorite movies of the year. I wanted to publish it before, but I did not have the time to finish writing everything on time, so please excuse the delay!
Like last year, I need to clarify that the order and movies on this list are entirely because of personal pleasure. This is my subjective and unbiased list. I don't doubt that there may have been better movies, and some that I put below may be better than others I put higher on the list, but this is my list of the films I enjoyed the most in 2015.
Something curious is that this year, despite having been a highly anticipated year for movies, didn't deliver as many good movies as 2014. But nevertheless, I managed to chose 10 films out of the ones I watched this year to complete my list.
The reason for which I usually share this so late is because during the year, I don't have the chance watch all the movies that I would have liked and that's why I try to catch up during these months where I am usually on vacations. Although I got to see many of the movies I planned, there are a few important ones that I missed. I don't know if those movies would had been or not on this list, but I am only warning you not to be surprised if I make no mention of movies like Sicario, Creed, Brooklyn, The Gift, Trumbo, Rogue Nation, Anomalisa, Steve Jobs, and among others I would have liked to see, but was unable to do so because of the lack of time.
The Top 10
And Number 1...
You knew this film was going to be here. Everyone who knows me knows how much of a fan of this type of adventure I am.
The Force Awakens revived Star Wars. J. J. Abrams has taken the franchise so many of us grew up with and has made it awesome again. It is one of the most enjoyable films I've seen in recent years. I will not lie. I went to the cinema five times.
That has its flaws? Sure it does. It is not a perfect film. I recognize that there are errors in the story that should have been polished. The film takes a lot of inspiration from the original trilogy so that more veteran viewers can feel familiar. But seeing the bigger picture, these flaws are not sufficient to reduce the entertainment value of the film. It is a film that kept me intrigued and on the edge of my seat from start to finish. References and similarities with the previous films are handled in a way that does not bug me. It mixes the new with the old in a fantastic way, making sure that this story about these new characters is not overshadowed by the characters of the original films. It will generate enough questions to keep you intrigued, and answered just enough to keep you excited for the ones that follow.
Star Wars is back!
