Sup, my people?
I’ve been off the blog for two months already, so I’m just passing by to leave a few signs of life.
Not much has been going on with me lately. I started working a few weeks ago, and my time during the recent weeks has been consumed mainly by college and work.
I've seen a few movies, series and read a few interesting things, but the lack of time hasn’t let me sit and share opinions about that.
In general, I can say the following:
I went to the BAFICI (Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema) in April, and I have to admit I was pleased with several of the movies I saw. Originally, I planned on making an entry only on the Bafici, but I didn’t have the time, and when I realized it, it had been too long since the festival for me to share an opinion here.
Some of the films that caught my attention, and quickly come to my mind are 'Bone Tomahawk', 'Hon-ja' (Alone), ‘Creative Control’ and ‘El Invierno Llega Despues del Otoño’ (Directed by two of my last year’s professors, Malena Solarz and Nicolas Zukerfeld). I also saw many of the short films selections, but it was so long ago that I can’t remember the names of the ones I really liked.
My main regret is that I did not have the opportunity to see more Latin-American films as I would have liked to. In the end, I think that was my fault. I started researching on which films were presented too late, and by then many had run out of tickets. Besides, there were so many movies that when I checked the program, I had no idea where to start.
Next year, I hope not to lose so many movies from here.
On the other hand, personally, I would recommend you to skip 'Alice Through The Looking Glass', because it is a failed attempt to make an unnecessary sequel. It has a very weak plot, which brings back virtually all the characters from the previous film, but this time, forces them to be part of the plot in a terrible way. More than 80% of the characters where standing around in the film only because they were in the previous one, although their appearances in this story is totally irrelevant, and only takes up unnecessary space.
And finally I’ll wrap up this part by saying that 'The Conjuring 2' was amazing. James Wan proves again his excellence as a horror director. The Conjuring is easily one of the few films in what remains of the genre, which continues to fulfill its missions.
Also, a great story is coming in the near future. I will not go into detail because the project is still in development, but with this next short film, I will make a return to the fantasy genre. The story will revolve around a new character that may become one of the most important ones I have created so far. Not wanting to spoil what’s coming, I'll leave it like that. Just wait, because when you least expect it, the name will drop.
In addition to this film that I will be directing, I’ll also be working on another project for which I’m very excited for. For this second project, I will not be a director, but I'll produce and cooperate the writing of the script. Currently, the director and screenwriter is working on a very interesting story, and I have to say that I am very happy with the director I chose for this. The project is still at an early stage of development, and I would not say more, so I'll leave you with that.
Finally, let's talk a little about the world of our beloved Dane Theonoz. Currently, the second book is progressing. Slow, but progressing, nonetheless. In addition, there is a small project related to this world that is beginning to take shape. I cannot tell you exactly what it is yet, but rest assured it's something you’ll love.
And with that, I leave all the news that I’m allowed to.
In summary: CRONO will be premiering sooner rather than later; I am currently working on two short films that are under development; and there is a small project related to that Nightwalker world that is also beginning to take shape.
I know that with this I may have generated more questions than answers, but I think at least now you have a little glimpse of the things coming in the future.
I hope to be back soon with more news!
With no more to say, I leave because I have homework.
